“Showa Kitchen” Sustainable Community Development in Toba Nakamachi

Toba Nakamachi was established with the aim of revitalizing the “town”, led by the stores around Kadoya, which used to be called “Toba’s kitchen” and was recognized as a registered tangible cultural property by the government in 2013.
Then, in 2016, they renovated a vacant dry cleaner’s store and opened the Gathering Space Kubokuri as a place where visitors and townspeople can interact with each other in this town.
The first floor of Kubokuri houses a coworking space, N3coffee, a 2-day-a-week cafe, and Hanashimizu, Toba Champon, while the second floor is operated as a shared office.

IKEUCHI ORGANIC not only sells products born from IKEUCHI ORGANIC’s environmentally conscious and safe manufacturing in its beloved hometown of Ozu, but also develops and sells Ozu-related products and sustainable products using raw materials produced in Ozu, and markets and sells them domestically and internationally.
In a town where vacant houses are becoming more and more conspicuous, Kubokuri and other stores utilizing vacant houses are opening one after another, and by renovating usable vacant houses and starting new businesses, we are promoting the revitalization of the town and designing and realizing sustainable town creation.

The BBFL Sustaina exhibition will be held at the Meiji warehouse of Awaihei (a company in Toba), which was renovated by students of the Shibaura Institute of Technology.
In this warehouse, the company is also working hard to support immigrants by holding Nakamachi markets, selling Nakamachi sponge cakes and Kamishio salt candy made from Kamishima salt, creating opportunities for people to get to know Nakamachi, and operating a bank of vacant houses.
Ise-Shima is a scenic place with the sea, mountains, and the Rias coast, and each region has its own unique features such as remote islands, towns with many divers, and fishing villages, but many people have the impression that it is difficult to stay in Ise-Shima. We aim to create a hub for the Ise-Shima region where people can visit and enjoy various areas while staying in Nakamachi.

The store is located along the road leading from Ohanahan Street (the old streets of the castle town) to Garyusanso, an important cultural asset and tourist attraction in Ozu, along with Ozu Castle.
The second floor is used as an inn “NIPPON HOTEL Ozu Castle Town” and the first floor is used as the store in this case.

Recently, he has opened a guesthouse, Rido Porte, and is working energetically to realize Ospitalita Difuso, where people can experience the Nakamachi area, enjoy a stay like a resident, and be entertained by the entire town.
The store is located along the road leading from Ohanahan Street (the old streets of the castle town) to Garyu Sanso, an important cultural asset and tourist resource in Ozu, along with Ozu Castle.
The second floor is used as the “NIPPON HOTEL Ozu Castle Town” and the first floor is used as the store in this case. The Akasaki Shrine is the last shrine of the Outer Shrine of Ise Jingu, the god of food, and is said to be a shrine that brings in the abundant seafood of Ise-Shima.

We are developing a base to support new entrepreneurs and people who want to do business, as well as to enliven the road to Akasaki Shrine as an approach to the shrine. We are planning to collaborate with BBFL to create human connections, collaborative products, and events at the base, so please come and visit.
